Flinders Island Safe Haven project: community information session

Event
25 March 2025

The restoration of Flinders Island will see it become a safe haven for vulnerable animals.

Islands are an ideal place for conservation projects as they provide natural biosecurity barriers that dramatically reduce the cost to maintain a feral-free environment as well as a high level of ongoing protection against reinvasion.

In May this year, cats, rats will be eradicated from Flinders Island. Once the island is officially declared pest free, threatened species can be introduced and thrive in a predator-free environment.

Come along to our next community information session on March 25, 6-7pm at the Elliston Sports Club to find out more about the project.

In addition, we will have staff at our Elliston office (6 Memorial Drive) to talk about the project on:

  • March 21 from 10am-3pm
  • March 26 from 9am-12pm
  • April 1 & 2 from 10am-3pm

This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government, the South Australian Department for Environment and Water and the Eyre Peninsula Landscapes Board in partnership with the Woolford family.
