Monitoring water quality in the Onkaparinga estuary

This monitoring program collects data that helps us to evaluate effectiveness of constructed wetlands in reducing estuary pollution and the significance of untreated stormwater.

Fortnightly monitoring includes:

  • sample site observations, including number of people, dogs and birds present at the sample site
  • water temperature
  • pH
  • turbidity
  • water salinity
  • dissolved oxygen
  • secchi depth

Seasonal monitoring includes:

  • total phosphorus
  • ammonia
  • faecal coliforms

Annual surveys monitor the condition of the samphire salt marsh, which is an important habitat for many plant and animals species, are also conducted.
