Farm dams play a critical role in water supply in the Mount Lofty Ranges, but they do require ongoing maintenance to prevent them causing damage to people, property, and the environment. If you own a dam, it’s important to know that you are responsible for ensuring it is safe and will be accountable for any damage caused in case of dam failure.

This interactive workshop is for anyone who has a dam on their property and wants to learn more about how to maintain it.

The workshop will cover:

  • How to conduct a dam inspection and what to look for
  • Common dam issues and practical steps to resolve them
  • Tips for improving dam water quality
  • Your responsibilities as a dam owner, including how to apply for permits for major works
  • Understanding your dam’s role in the local catchment and broader landscape.

We will also be walking the perimeter of a farm dam, and you’ll have a chance to use our inspection checklist to practise identifying issues and discussing possible solutions.

If the fire ban rating is forecast to be Extreme or Catastrophic on the day of the event, it will be postponed, and all registered participants will be notified. The rating will be confirmed by 5:00pm the day before.

This project is being delivered by Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu, in partnership with the Northern & Yorke Landscape Board, with funding from the South Australian government’s Landscape Priorities Fund and the Department for Environment and Water.
