A new plan for Kangaroo Island

Nurturing Kangaroo Island’s landscapes together to create a thriving, sustainable future

The KI Landscape Board inherited the KI Natural Resources Management Board’s responsibilities for facilitating the sustainable management of our island’s landscapes on 1 July 2020. One of its first jobs is to develop a ‘Landscape Plan’ outlining how it will be delivering practical, on-ground programs that manage our water, land and soil, pests, and biodiversity, in partnership with our local community.

The Landscape Board will endeavour to facilitate the best possible outcomes through a range of partnerships, including with farming and community groups, government departments, non-government organisations, and the KI Council.

During the recent landscape reform process, the island’s communities expressed a strong desire for planning to be built on previous feedback and not waste additional resources by duplicating consultation.

Therefore, the draft Landscape Plan has been developed by bringing together all the community feedback that has been collected during the many engagement processes over the last few years.

The draft Landscape Plan was released for public consultation from early February to mid March. The comments received are now being considered and incorporated into the plan. The final Kangaroo Island Landscape Plan will be released on 1 July 2021. Thank you to all those who contributed.
