It's Penguin Census time

News release
02 September 2013

Volunteers are needed for this year's island-wide penguin census. Learn more about these fascinating creatures and their habits, and assist scientists in their research. Researchers from Flinders University are assisting with the census as part of a study investigating the changes to penguin numbers in the Gulf St Vincent region.Hear a short presentation on current research, before searching for active penguin nests on rocky beaches, in coastal scrub and along grassy slopes. You’ll need to stretch, bend and peer into burrows. Delicious refreshments will be provided after the census.

Please note that children under the age of 18 will require supervision by a parent or guardian.

The census occurs at multiple locations across the island on a number of dates. Please check the main Events listing for additional dates and locations.

This year’s Island-wide census has been made possible thanks to funding provided by Natural Resources Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges.
