Searching for NRM local achievers
Nominations are now open for Kangaroo Island NRM Local Achiever Awards. The awards recognise the achievements of Kangaroo Islanders who are doing an outstanding job in caring for our natural resources, including landscapes, water, soil, plants and animals.
The awards were launched in 2015 and some of the previous recipients have included a boutique winery taking a ‘whole farm’ approach to primary production; an entomologist whose research led to the discovery of a new moth family on the island and individuals working with farming communities to increase sustainable land management practices.
Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management Board Presiding member, Richard Trethewey said that we want to recognise those who contribute their time, energy and resources to caring for and maintaining the island’s natural environment.
“Anyone involved in caring for Kangaroo Island’s natural resources, can nominate for an award,” Mr Trethewey said.
The awards are open to individuals, groups, organisations and business enterprises. There are four categories open for nomination:
- Community NRM Project Award
- Outstanding Individual Award
- Sustainable Primary Production Award
- Sustainable Tourism Award
The 2017 Local Achievers NRM Awards will be presented at the KI Australia Day celebration at Hope Cottage, Kingscote in conjunction with the KI Council’s Citizen of the Year Awards.
