Limestone Coast treasure key to capturing winning photo

News release
02 August 2021

A passion for photography and an eye for detail have resulted in this year’s winning photo entry in the Limestone Coast Landscape Board’s 2021 photo competition open category.

John Carter, the photographer behind the spectacular image of a sunset over Mullinger Swamp near Naracoorte said the area is a great place for photography as its still waters offer a myriad of reflections and photographic opportunity.

John’s interest in photography stems from his teenage years and he finds photography a relaxing past time from a busy workplace at Teys in Naracoorte.

The theme for the Limestone Coast Landscape Board’s 2021 photo competition was ‘Our Changing Landscape’ and entries showcased how the photographers see the regions landscape in the past, present and in the future.

Entrants were asked to focus on and tell a story about the Limestone Coast Landscape Board’s priorities of sustainable primary production, water, biodiversity, plants, animals and education of the community to sustainably manage our landscapes.

Reflecting on the entries Andrea Bartetzko, Team Leader of Engagement and Communications for the Limestone Coast Landscape Board congratulated this year’s photographic submissions, saying that the “scope and quality of entries has been outstanding”. With well over 230 entries showcasing the Limestone Coast, the judging panel did not have an easy task of selecting the winners.

“The photo competition is a great way for the Limestone Coast community to connect with country, explore and capture what is unique about our spectacular region.”

John and the other winners will share in some great prizes, and selected photos will feature in a range of the Limestone Coast Landscape Board’s publications and social media platforms.
