Lower Limestone Coast Water Allocation Plan Management Areas
Since the adoption of the 2013 water allocation plan further work has been undertaken including the Science Review, the 2019 assessment of risks to groundwater resources and the Kingston Confined Aquifer Groundwater Model. These processes have resulted in changes to the status of some management areas. For management areas where actions are required to mitigate the risks identified this will form part of the review process. However, if in the opinion of the Minister, the rate at which water is taken is such that it there is risk to groundwater levels, water availability, water quality or environmental assets, the Minister can apply restrictions at any time.
Confined Aquifer Management Area Status Update
Management Area | Status |
FAIRVIEW | Not over allocated |
KALANGADOO | Not over allocated |
KINGSTON | Over allocated – a groundwater modelling project was completed which examined the impact of different levels of extraction on the confined aquifer. While use remains below the target management level further action will be explored through the water allocation plan review process. During the review process, if in the opinion of the Minister, the rate at which water is taken is such that it there is risk to groundwater levels, water availability, water quality or environmental assets, the Minister can apply restrictions. |
