Waikerie Sandy Rise – Sand over Loamy Sand (Lowbank)

This site closely relates to an H2 soil type – deep sand. This soil type has deep siliceous sand, becoming slightly calcareous with depth.

The soil pH is alkaline throughout the profile. Rooting depth is approximately 30cm. Low nutrient status determine the soils root depth. Seedling emergence can be affected by water repellence in dry seasons.

Further information on H2 soils can be found on page 206 of The Soils of Southern South Australia, Part 1 or Part 2.

Detailed representative soil profile data is available for more than 1100 locations around South Australia and can be accessed through Nature Maps, with a handy guide for using data sheets also available. A localised soil characterisation site data sheet provides indicative chemical analysis of an H2 soil type.
