Waikerie Sandy Rise – Loamy Sand over Loam (Maggea)

This site closely relates to an A4 soil type – deep calcareous loamy sand. This soil type has very thick soft loamy sand becoming highly calcareous and slightly more clayey with depth.

The soil pH is alkaline at the surface and becomes strongly alkaline with depth. Rooting depth is approximately 80cm, but very few roots extend below 50cm. It is a lightly textured soil and compaction can develop over time. Boron concentration, pH and sodicity may become limiting from 80cm however there are no apparent constraints in the surface apart from low nutrient holding capacity.
