About us

About us

We care for the land, water and nature of the Northern and Yorke region of South Australia.
We work with the people of the region to care for the landscapes, waterways and ecosystems that make this place unique.

We work with communities to look after land, water, plants and animals across our region, so people and nature thrive.

We are the official natural resource management (NRM) body for the region, one of 54 which cover every inch of Australia.

Through funding, partnerships, practical projects and expert advice, we support healthier and more resilient environments, sustainable industries, vibrant communities, while protecting the treasured places where people live, work and visit.

The community is at the heart of sustainably managing their regions’ natural resources

The sustainable management of our precious landscapes – soil, water, plants and animals, and all biodiversity – is the responsibility of all South Australians.

By working together, we can create healthier, more resilient landscapes that are better able to withstand and recover from natural disasters such as drought and bushfire. In turn, this helps support thriving ecosystems, prosperous local industries and strong communities.

Our work is guided by

  • The Landscape South Australia Act 2019*. This legislation guides how we work with communities, landholders, industry and government to care for the region's landscapes, water, biodiversity and natural resources.
  • The State Landscape Strategy (2022-2032). This 10-year plan is the overarching guide for how the nine local NRM bodies across South Australia help their communities manage their regions’ natural resources, by providing support and expertise. The Act supports healthy Country outcomes by enabling regional decision-making, partnerships, and investment in natural resource management.
  • The Northern and Yorke Regional Landscape Plan (2026-2031). This 5-year plan is formed by the communities of the Northern and Yorke region to guide their priorities and how they plan to manage their region's natural resources. We set priorities by listening to communities and balancing their aspirations against our statutory responsibilities under the Act.
We manage the region's landscapes using the principles of community action planning. We deliver a strong, back-to-basics support that’s autonomous and flexible in response to our regions’ needs.
We deliver a diverse range of programs and projects for the region, with a host of regional communities, government and regional partners.
