Apply now for a NRM Back to Basics Grant
The Northern and Yorke NRM Board invites all land managers and community groups situated within the Southern Finders Upper North district to apply for the Northern and Yorke Natural Resources Management Board’s Back to Basics Grants Program.
Natural Resources Northern and Yorke Southern Flinders Team Leader Kate Pearce said the grants can have a big impact on the district.
“Landholders are encouraged to partner with their neighbours to undertake a coordinated pest and plant management project that will have maximum impact on the area,” Mrs Pearce said.
“We have had some incredibly innovative projects in our region and will continue to support the efforts of individuals and groups to make a real difference in improving the state of our natural resources,” she said.
The Back to Basics Grants Program has been established to provide funding to land managers and community groups to undertake projects that deliver positive environmental outcomes in Pest Management and Sustainable Agriculture practices across the Northern and Yorke Region.
Grants of up to $5000 (plus in kind contributions and landholder commitment) are available for projects such as coordinated pest management and weed control.
The grants are aimed to align with the District Weed Strategy and Landscape Community Action Planning (CAP) priorities. Examples of ways that funding could be used include:
- Purchase of chemical or equipment
- Hiring of contractors
- Coordinating and funding working bees
- Projects that make pest control activities and work safer and more effective.
Applications will be open from 1 November 2019 to 31 May 2020, enabling individuals and groups to consider and develop project ideas that could make a difference to controlling pest plant and animals in the Southern Flinders Upper North district.
Land managers working with their neighbours on landscape scale projects are encouraged and will be given greater consideration.
The Back to Basics Grants Program is an initiative of the Northern and Yorke Natural Resources Management Board and funded through the NRM Levy.
