Grassroots Grants 2026-27 – Expressions of Interest now open.
Have you got a great idea for an environmental project?
The Alinytjara Wiluṟara Landscape Board is offering a Grassroots Grant of up to $40,368 to help build environmental resilience and sustainability in our region.
Grassroots Grants are available to landholding authorities, schools, and community groups.
Submit an Expression of Interest before August 2, 2026 to be considered for this year's Grassroots Grant.
The type of activities that can be funded through the program include on‐ground activities relating to:
- Aṉangu cultural and ecological knowledge – intergenerational transfer of traditional knowledge
- weed management
- pest management
- access control for environmental or cultural outcomes (e.g. fencing)
- water sites management
- revegetation
- environmental surveys
- training activities
- small equipment purchase
All project ideas must align with the AW Landscape Board's priorities and focus areas as outlined in our Landscape Plan 2026-31.

Funding application assistance
The Alinytjara Wiluṟara Landscape Board can assist community groups and individuals to develop proposals and seek funding for projects that focus on improving natural resources in the AW region.
Projects can focus on:
- investigating, monitoring and protecting native species, ecosystems and their threats
- trialling and demonstrating new technologies and management techniques which improve the health of Country
- raising awareness of issues affecting Country
- on-ground actions that improve the health of and reduce threats to the region's biodiversity.
If you or your community have an idea for a land management related activity, get in contact with us.
We have long-standing successful relationships with the region's community leaders and are well positioned to negotiate with relevant landholders and partnering bodies regarding how work might be done. This includes employment of local people and skill development.
The AW Landscape Board is made up of Aṉangu leaders who represent communities across the AW region.
Examples of work and events that were proposed by communities include:
- Mamungari Big Womens’ Trip
- Camel culls
- Whale of a Day
- Inla Rockhole
- Two-way mapping workshops
