New Officer appointed to the Eastern Eyre Peninsula
Sarah Voumard has been appointed as a new staff member on the Eastern Eyre Peninsula to support the new Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board, while Corey Yeates is taking a break interstate.
Having worked in similar roles in the Upper North/Southern Flinders District earlier in her career with the Department for Environment and Water, Ms Voumard said she is pleased to have the opportunity to work with land holders on the Eastern Eyre Peninsula.
“I am passionate about assisting people to protect the environment and conserve threatened species while retaining the ability to make a living from industries that are intrinsically linked to the environment including farming and fishing,” Ms Voumard said.
“Growing up on a mixed family farm in the mid-north ignited my interest in agriculture. I have studied in environmental and agricultural fields and worked with scientists, land owners and other stakeholders toward environmental outcomes across the state.
“Over the past year I have been working closely with Mary Crawford delivering the Regenerative Agriculture Program on the Eyre Peninsula and in the Regional Agricultural Landcare Facilitator role, based in Port Lincoln.
Ms Voumard will hit the ground running delivering a mallee seeps project from July, having successfully winning funding from the Australian Government, Smart Farms Small Grants program.
“I’m thrilled that the grant funding is available for the project to establish some scientific trials to remediate seep areas on effected Eastern Eyre Peninsula farms and extend the learnings.
“My focus areas include soil health, samphire health, controlling declared weeds, mallee seeps, revegetation and agriculture,” Ms Voumard said.
Sarah looks forward to working for the incoming EP Landscape Board and will be based at the office in Cleve, along with colleague Rebekah Davenport. Sarah can be contacted on 0429 677 604 or 08 8628 2077.
