Showcasing Eyre Peninsula NRM at State Landcare Conference
Eight Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula staff will be presenting at the State Landcare Conference in Clare this week. They are showcasing a range of successful natural resources management (NRM) projects such as Eyre Peninsula’s Aboriginal partnerships in NRM, the WildEyre conservation through collaboration project, women in sustainable agriculture enterprises and an the ever-increasing network of local citizen scientists making important biological observations (birds, goannas, koala) on Eyre Peninsula.
Marine Mammals Museum event set to come to SALT Festival 2019
Be immersed in all things marine mammals at ‘A Night with the Museum’ on Tuesday 23 April as part of SALT Festival 2019. Marine Parks Eyre Peninsula Regional Coordinator Dr Shelley Paull said she’s excited by the opportunity to give community direct access to the leading marine scientists in this field from the South Australian Museum.
New NRM Board members
Helen Smith and Meagan Turner are the region’s newly appointed Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management (NRM) Board Members. The Board’s Presiding Member Diana Laube welcomed Helen and Meagan at their first meeting.

Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula is working with local land managers to control the declared weed species Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) in priority areas on northern Eyre Peninsula, particularly in and around Whyalla, Cowell and Cleve districts.
Board celebrates ten years
The Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management (EPNRM) Board has celebrated ten years of service to the local community. Since its first meeting on 9 June 2005 at Wudinna Community Centre, the Board has seen significant achievements by landholders, community members, school groups, businesses and volunteers in the protection and restoration of the Eyre Peninsula landscape.
‘Wardu of a Day’ at Scotdesco
‘Wardu’ or wombat was celebrated recently in a special day of cultural learning and knowledge sharing, at Scotdesco homelands. The ‘Wardu of a Day’ event saw students and community from the Far West Eyre Peninsula immerse themselves in a day of cultural learning to share knowledge on the wombat. The Southern hairy-nosed wombat (Lasiorhinus latifrons), named Wardu across the Far West Aboriginal language groups, is an important species in Aboriginal culture, part of the dream time stories and as a valuable food source.
