Lincoln National Park tracks reopen to visitors

Tracks, including the popular Sleaford to Wanna track, have now been reopened within Lincoln National Park following the containment of a fire burning in the park’s west last week.

Lincoln National Park closed to new visitors

Lincoln National Park on Eyre Peninsula has been closed to new visitors while the South Australian Country Fire Service and Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) work to bring a fire within the park under control.

As part of the Spring Prescribed Burn Program, a number of burns have been planned around Eyre Peninsula by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR). Burns are planned for Lincoln National Park, Lincoln Basin Crown Land south of Port Lincoln, Ironstone Hill Conservation Park, Hincks Wilderness protection area, Coffin Bay National Park and Kellidie Bay Conservation Park.

Boat users are being reminded to keep their distances from migrating whales in the Upper Spencer Gulf after a boat was spotted following a whale too closely at Point Lowly.

Koonibba and Port Kenny students go bush for bilbies

Students from Koonibba and Port Kenny schools, schools over 200km apart, joined forces to care for country and threatened species at Venus Bay Conservation Park, on Eyre Peninsula’s West Coast. The students learned about threatened species such as the greater bilby and brush-tailed bettong, while honing their tracking skills and discovering wombat, shorebird and reptile habitats.

Whale rescue team ready

When whales migrate through South Australia’s waters, the Eyre Peninsula Whale Disentanglement Team, comprised of Fisheries Officers, Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary and Natural Resources staff, is on standby to rescue any animals that become entangled or beached in a stranding event.
