African Boxthorn control enters next phase

The Eyre Peninsula has a new Management Plan for the invasive weed African Boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum). The management plan outlines the biology, threats and feasibility of control and what control should happen in the region. The first phase of the Management Plan, a large-scale control program has been undertaken via helicopter by WildEyre in partnership with Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula (NREP).

New technology for ancient birds - Malleefowl

The malleefowl, one of Eyre Peninsula’s most iconic wild birds is about to have its annual population check-up. The National Malleefowl Recovery Team trained 25 local volunteers and Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula staff to use new specialised smartphone enabled software to monitor malleefowl nests and record sightings.

Concerns over illegal crabbing at Eight Mile Creek

The community is reminded that crabbing is illegal within the Cowleds Landing Sanctuary Zone at Eight Mile Creek. South Australia’s network of marine park sanctuary zones was designed with community input to provide protection for all plants and animals in key areas across the state.

Regional Water Allocation Plan with Minister

The new draft Water Allocation Plan (WAP) for the Southern Basins and the Musgrave Prescribed Wells Areas, has been endorsed by the Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management Board and is now being considered by the Minister for Water and the River Murray Ian Hunter.
