Kangaroo Island farmers and landholders are invited to a free workshop at Bellevista Cropping Farm on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, to learn how to make foliar fertilisers.

Tom Robinson, one of the presenters at the foliar fertiliser workshop and his family have been farming the land between Halbury and Hoyleton in the state’s mid north for nearly 150 years.

The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board is hosting a free workshop: 'Unlocking the Power of Foliar Fertilisers' as a hands-on learning exercise with expert farmers and agronomists.

Workshop presenters include Jenny Stanton (Australian Soil Planners), an agronomy specialist with practical experience in crop nutrition and sustainable fertiliser management, Tom Robinson (Hoyleton), a cropping and livestock specialist with expertise in practical farm solutions and foliar fertiliser applications, and Amanda Schapel (PIRSA) a soil specialist with expertise in soil carbon and health.

Kangaroo Island Landscape Board Chair Andrew Heinrich said the workshop offers interesting insights for experienced farmers and those keen to learn cost-effective methods for producing fertilisers.

"Apart from gaining hands-on experience in preparing foliar fertilisers for your farm, this workshop offers a day away from your property to enjoy a nice lunch and a chance to catch up with friends," Mr Heinrich said.

Mr Heinrich said workshop participants will learn how foliar feeding complements soil fertility strategies as well as gain insights into soil health, carbon dynamics, and sustainable farming practices.

Workshop highlights include:

  • Foliar Fertiliser Making: Jenny and Tom will demonstrate step-by-step methods for creating effective broad acre foliar fertilisers to achieve healthier crops and better yields.

  • Soil and Carbon Insights: Amanda will explain how foliar fertilisers interact with soil health and carbon management to optimise crop nutrition.

  • Meet the Farmer & Q&A: After the workshop, join us at the Kangaroo Island brewery for an informal discussion with the presenters and farmers.
