Kangaroo Island threatened plants
Kangaroo Island is home to several plant species listed as Nationally threatened under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). Many of these species are endemic to Kangaroo Island and risk extinction if not appropriately managed and conserved. Threats to these species include vegetation clearance, loss of habitat, habitat fragmentation, inappropriate fire regimes, low genetic diversity, weed invasion, soil-borne pathogens, livestock grazing and trampling, rising salinity, erosion and climate change. Many of these species rely on Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia) Woodland for habitat, which is listed as a Critically Endangered ecological community under the EPBC Act and is also endemic to Kangaroo Island.
