Kangaroo Island logania

Scientific name: Logania insularis   

National status (EPBC Act 1999): Vulnerable

South Australian status: (NPW Act 1972): Vulnerable

Description:

Small erect shrub to 30 cm high, with minutely hairy stems. Bright green to red-tinged elliptical leaves to 8 mm long and 3 mm wide. Separate male and female plants. Cream to pale-yellow flowers in clusters. Flowering between September and November.

Distribution:

Endemic to the north-western tip of Kangaroo Island. Grows along the coast in open mallee or low shrubland on brown sandy soil overlying limestone.

Specific threats:

Threats to Logania insularis include inappropriate fire regimes (too frequent fires) as well as a highly restricted distribution.
