Hindmarsh correa

Scientific name: Correa calycina var. halmaturorum   

National status (EPBC Act 1999): Vulnerable

South Australian status: (NPW Act 1972): Endangered

Description:

Tall dense shrub to 3 m high and 2 m wide with stems covered in dense rusty-tinged hairs. Broad oblong leaves to 4 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, with undersides covered in dense fawn to rusty hairs. Single green to mauve tubular flowers on lateral or axillary branchlets. Flowering between October and March.

Distribution:

Endemic to the De Mole River area of Kangaroo Island. Grows along riverbanks in deep damp soils overlying shale within Eucalyptus cladocalyx ssp. crassa forest.

Specific threats:

Threats to Correa calycina var. halmaturorum include inappropriate fire regimes (too frequent fires), flash flooding following bushfires, soil-borne disease (Phytophthora cinnamomi), climate change and a highly restricted distribution.
