Splendid bush-pea

Scientific name: Pultenaea villifera var. glabrescens

Description:

Erect woody shrub to 2 m high. Sharply pointed smooth, elliptical bright green leaves with sparse hairs to 26 mm long and 9 mm wide. Single yellow to orange pea-flowers with red striation. Flowering between October and December.

Distribution:

Endemic to Kangaroo Island. Grows on sandy to gravelly clay over sandstone, basalt, limestone or rhyolite within dry sclerophyll forests dominated by Allocasuarina verticillata and Eucalyptus cladocalyx ssp. crassa. Largely restricted to the north coast of the island.

Specific threats:

Threats to Pultenaea villifera var. glabrescens include vegetation clearance and habitat loss, disturbance from road maintenance and fire prevention works, inappropriate fire regimes (lack of fire or too frequent fires), soil-borne disease (Phytophthoracinnamomi) and climate change.
