Osborn's eyebright

Scientific name: Euphrasia collina ssp. osbornii

South Australian status: (NPW Act 1972): Endangered

Description:

Perennial herb. Upper leaves pale green to red-brown, to 12 mm long and 9 mm wide, with 3-6 pairs of teeth. White to pink or lavender flowers, paler inside, sometimes with a yellow blotch behind the lowest lobe. Flowering between August and December.

Distribution:

Endemic to South Australia including Kangaroo Island, Yorke Peninsula, Mount Lofty Ranges and the upper South-east. On Kangaroo Island it grows within coastal clifftop heath at the eastern end of the island.

Specific threats:

Threats to Euphrasia collina ssp. osbornii include vegetation clearance, disturbance from fire prevention activities, over-browsing by macropods (kangaroos and wallabies), livestock grazing, inappropriate fire regimes (lack of fire) and climate change.
