Water

On Kangaroo Island, water is essential to our environment, industries, and communities. The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board manages this precious resource to make sure water is shared fairly amongst users and to protect water quality and our aquatic ecosystems.

One way that the landscape board manages water resources is to make sure water affecting activities (WAAs) that could affect watercourses, lakes, floodplains, and other vital water areas are assessed to ensure that they don’t have negative impacts on the water resource, the environment, or other water users.

A permit system has been established, under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019, to regulate the types of works and activities that are deemed WAAs.

Please contact the KI Landscape Boards Water Officer on 08 8553 2476 or ki.landscapeboard@sa.gov.au if you are uncertain whether you need a WAA Permit.

We are here to help you.
