Free workshop to help KI Farmers turn feed budgets into profit with Basil Doonan – Pinion Advisory
The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board is inviting livestock producers to a free, hands-on workshop focused on turning feed planning into better productivity and profitability.
The workshop, Feed Budgets to Decisions: Stocking, Feeding & Profitability will be held on Tuesday 14 October, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Stokes Bay Community Hall, followed by a Q&A session at Parndana Pub.
Presented by Basil Doonan of Pinion Advisory – one of Australia’s leading pasture and feed budgeting advisors – the workshop will give producers clear, practical tools to:
- Create a feed profile and monthly feed budgets
- Match stocking rate with true carrying capacity
- Plan cost effective supplementation
- Avoid over or underfeeding through better data
- Make confident, profit-focused decisions
“After a tough run with drought, this workshop is about giving producers the tools to match their stocking decisions to their pasture availability – and improve profitability in the process,” said Mr Doonan.
“We’ll focus on what matters: aligning feed supply with animal demand, knowing when to feed, and what the cost-benefit is.”
The session will also touch on broader livestock management areas like rotational grazing, rumen health, cost of inputs, and market planning – offering a big-picture look at how to build a more productive and financially sustainable system.
