Community input wanted on new KI Landscape Plan
The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board is seeking community input into the development of its new five year Landscape Plan.

Board Chair Andrew Heinrich said the Kangaroo Island Landscape Plan (the Plan) sets the Board's priorities for how we care for land, water, biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods on Kangaroo Island.

"Healthy landscapes support agriculture, tourism, biodiversity, and community wellbeing," Mr Heinrich said.

"We want a Plan that reflects the aspirations, knowledge and lived experiences of the people who live, work and care for this place," he said.

"Community input is essential for us to set a shared direction, so that effort and investment are focused where they matter most."

Mr Heinrich said the more the Plan reflects real issues and opportunities on Kangaroo Island, the more useful and powerful it will be.

"We're looking for a broad mix of views, from farmers and fishers to conservation groups, tourism businesses and young people," Mr Heinrich said.

"Whether you've got a big vision or a small idea, it can help shape the future direction of our landscape."

Mr Heinrich said the new Plan will identify regional priorities, focus areas and outcomes for the Board to achieve in managing landscapes and supporting resilient communities.

"The Plan will be practical – helping to turn community insights, science and regional knowledge into tangible outcomes," Mr Heinrich said.

DEFINING COMMUNITY PRIORITIES

Mr Heinrich said the first step in developing the new Plan is making sure the Board understands the community's priorities.

"We are running a series of workshops and an online survey to capture what you value, what you think our priorities should be and help us identify future challenges and opportunities," Mr Heinrich said.

Mr Heinrich said at this stage of developing the new Plan, the Board wants to know:

  • What parts of the landscape are most important to our community and why?

  • Which landscape outcomes are most important to our community?

  • What are the Island's top challenges, now and into the future?

  • What are our community's most front-of-mind priority focus areas for landscape management?

  • What would our community do if we had no constraints?

  • What Board services do you most value?

  • Is there anything else you want to see in the Plan to make it more useful (for example, an explanation of the Board's role)?
