Women across Kangaroo Island are invited to celebrate the end of the school holidays and kick off 2026 at a special Ladies Day Luncheon at Springs Road Winery on Thursday 29 January 2026 from 9.30am–12pm, with a free lunch provided at 12pm and catered by Kangaroo Island Providore.

The morning will begin with a short workshop led by Carbon Outreach Officer, Alex Comino, who will guide attendees through the major changes coming to agriculture over the next five years as Australia – and its export markets – advance their emissions reduction commitments.

“Our primary producers are already navigating big shifts, and there’s more on the horizon,” Ms Comino said. “This workshop is about helping women across farming families understand what’s coming, where the opportunities are, and how to feel confident about the future.”

Attendees will then hear from keynote speaker Jasmin Piggott, a crop farmer, native flower grower and community leader from Miltalie, a small Eyre Peninsula district of around 150 people. Jasmin is the founder of Poodra Springs Native Flowers, a thriving native flower farm she built from drought-affected ground as a way to diversify her family’s farming enterprise.

In addition to her on-farm innovation, Jasmin has played a significant role in supporting rural communities during prolonged dry seasons. She was originally hired by the District Council of Franklin Harbour as Cowell’s drought relief coordinator and later appointed by the Red Cross as a Senior Drought Resilience Officer. In these roles, she worked closely with farming families, community groups and local organisations—visiting properties, providing on-the-ground support, and helping people access critical services during some of the region’s toughest years.

Her story has been widely shared across South Australian media, highlighting her determination, creativity and commitment to strengthening rural communities. From hand-planting thousands of native plants, to hosting on-farm workshops, to building local collaborations, Jasmin is a strong voice for rural women navigating the realities of farming, family life, and change.

Jasmin is also heavily involved in community leadership as President of the Cowell Football Club – its first female football president – as well as Chair of the Cowell Area School Governing Council and Vice Chair of Parents & Friends. Her keynote will explore the realities of farming, the mental and practical challenges she’s faced, and the strategies that have helped her adapt, grow and support others.

“This event is a chance to take time for yourself, connect with other women, and start the year feeling inspired,” Ms Comino said. “If you like wine, platters, good conversation and great company – come join us.”

Parenting KI crèche services will be available to support families.
