Kangaroo Island farmers will have the opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can support everyday farm decision-making at a practical Tools & Tech session hosted by the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board later this month.

Free workshop: How AI can help Kangaroo Island farmers

The session, “Using AI for Farming: taking records and making decisions,” will be held on Monday 30 March at 9:00am at the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board office, 35 Dauncey Street, Kingscote.

The workshop will be presented by Ben Finkel, Managing Director of the Australian Regional AI Network (ARAIN), who works with farmers and regional businesses across Australia to explore simple and practical uses of artificial intelligence in agriculture.

Rather than focusing on complex technology, the session will demonstrate how farmers can use AI tools to organise and interpret the information they already collect — from paddock observations and rainfall records to livestock performance and seasonal conditions.

Kangaroo Island Landscape Board Chair Aphid Heinrich said artificial intelligence is increasingly helping farmers uncover patterns in crop, climate and farm data that can improve productivity and resilience.

“These technologies can help farmers to interpret large amounts of information more quickly, helping them plan operations, respond to seasonal conditions and make more informed management decisions,” Mr Heinrich said.

“Across Australia, AI tools are also being used to analyse satellite imagery, soil data and weather patterns to monitor crop health, improve grazing management and optimise resource use.”

Mr Heinrich said the session aims to show farmers that AI can be a practical tool rather than a complicated technology.

“Farmers already gather a huge amount of knowledge through observation, record-keeping and experience,” Mr Heinrich said.

“This session is about showing how simple AI tools can help capture that knowledge and turn it into clearer insights to support day-to-day farm decisions.”

The workshop will focus on easy-to-adopt applications, including planning tasks, summarising records, analysing trends and supporting follow-up decisions.

The session is open to Kangaroo Island farmers and primary producers interested in learning how emerging technologies can support farm management and productivity.

Morning tea will be provided.

Farmers are encouraged to RSVP to Joaquin Pillado at the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board.
