KI community invited to comment on final draft Landscape Plan
The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board is inviting community feedback on the final draft Kangaroo Island Landscape Plan 2026-2031, now open for public comment from 1 February 2026 to 15 March 2026.
The draft Plan sets a shared direction for how we support community, biodiversity, land and water, and manage pests and climate risks, for the next five years.
Board Chair Aphid Heinrich said the draft Plan reflects extensive input from the Kangaroo Island community.
This Plan has been shaped by the people of Kangaroo Island – the people who live here, work here, and care for our landscapes together.”
Community members have shared their knowledge, concerns and aspirations through more than 450 interactions including workshops, surveys, written feedback and activities at the Kingscote and Parndana Shows.
The draft Plan will guide the Board’s work from 2026 to 2031, identifying regional priorities, focus areas and outcomes to coordinate action and attract funding.
“Kangaroo Island is a special place, with landscapes and biodiversity found nowhere else. Our unique plants, animals and soils support our way of life. They keep our community healthy, attract visitors from around the world, and underpin our farming and fishing industries,” Mr Heinrich said.
“This plan sets a shared direction to work together for healthy land and sea.”
What happens next
The six-week statutory consultation period is the final opportunity for the community to review the draft Plan before it is considered for approval by the Board and submitted to the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water.
