Little Corella trial control program update

The Board is conducting this trial to demonstrate that control is possible and provide supporting information to other key Island partners to inform and enable funding decisions targeted at the delivery of tangible control actions.

“The trial is not designed to reduce population density pressure in this season alone,” Kangaroo Island Landscape Board General Manager Will Durack said.

“ We acknowledge that this is ultimately required,” he said.

Mr Durack said the trial program includes the use of night-time control using thermal scopes for shooting.

“Our marksman located numerous flock roosting sites on the outskirts of Kingscote that are in suitable locations for night-time roost site control thanks to reports from landholders,” Mr Durack said.

“Our thanks to the community members who have reported Little Corella roosting sites.,” he said.

Mr Durack said the Board is asking the community to please report roosting sites, which means the Little Corellas are present one hour after dark , by calling 8553 2476 during office hours.

“We will provide an update soon on the progress and results of the trial program in the coming weeks,” Mr Durack said.
