VALE, Janice Roslyn Kelly (Jackie) OAM
The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board (KILB) acknowledges with profound sadness the passing of Janice Roslyn Kelly (Jackie) OAM.
KILB Chair Andrew Heinrich said Jackie's service to the Kangaroo Island community spanned decades, working in various volunteer and leadership roles, including Presiding Member for the Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management Board from 2005-2010.
“As the Presiding Member, Jackie was unwavering in her commitment to the Island's sustainable development,” Mr Heinrich said.
“Her efforts have left a lasting impact, ensuring that our environment is preserved, enhanced, and repaired for the benefit of future generations,” he said.
“Her legacy will continue to inspire us all.”
Mr Heinrich said Jackie fostered strong relationships with all key agencies on the Island, a key factor in our community's unity and progress.
“Jackie also oversaw the work that succeeded in eradicating feral deer and goats from KI and supported the development of the Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management Board's first comprehensive strategic plan from 2009 to 2019,” Mr Heinrich said.
“In addition, Jackie supported on-ground works to help mitigate the impacts of the flooding of Harriet River in 2009 and launched the NRM Local Achievers Awards,” he said.
“Importantly, Jackie empowered local landholders to undertake diverse on-ground actions on their properties, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility for our environment.”
Mr Heinrich said as a Presiding Member, Jackie was a true leader.
“She threw her full support behind the Board and all of its staff, always interested in our activities, always looking for opportunities to enhance our work, and always ready to help us support the community as best we could,” Mr Heinrich said.
“All who had the privilege of working with her will fondly remember her dedication and leadership.”
“We extend our condolences to her husband Bryan, her sons Philip, Simon, Tim, and their families, and all who loved her.”
