Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator

The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (SAF) program is made up of a national network which involves facilitators in each of Australia’s 56 natural resource management regions.

The SAFs for the South Australian Arid Lands work primarily with pastoralists and industry groups to identify and address key issues regarding sustainable production in the region. Ensuring the right information is available to help people improve soil and land condition, increase productive capacity and reduce the impacts of land degradation processes is key to best practice management in the SA Arid Lands

The SAF will:

  • Engage with pastoralists, land managers, community groups and industry to deliver agricultural outcomes that will improve sustainability, productivity and profitability.
  • Provide opportunities for partnerships that will best deliver agricultural outcomes, such as connecting industry and pastoralists so that they can work together to address issues of common concern.
  • Assist land managers, community groups and agricultural industries to develop new projects and seek funding, membership and resources for NRM opportunities.
  • Support the development, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of current NLP funded projects within the region
  • Support the delivery of capacity-building activities such as workshops and stickybeak days
  • Update the land managers and pastoralists within the region on emerging ideas, climate change activities, innovative practices and relevant new government policy to help improve the sustainability, productivity and profitability of their land.
