Leaders invited to nominate for board membership
Experienced and emerging community leaders are encouraged to apply to become an SA Arid Lands Landscape Board member.
Landscape boards are designed to reflect the diverse communities they serve and the varied landscapes they occupy. Members play a vital role in bringing local knowledge and expertise to decision-making.
Applications are encouraged from women, First Nations people, young adults and people from culturally diverse backgrounds to ensure a broad range of perspectives. Members are appointed by the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water.
The SAAL Landscape Board is one of seven landscape boards seeking local leaders to drive the strategic decisions that protect biodiversity, support communities and build climate-ready landscapes.
SA Arid Lands Landscape Board General Manager said a role on the board can create an opportunity for community leaders can help shape the future of the region, it’s prosperity and sustainability.
“Serving on the SAAL Landscape Board is an opportunity to draw on your skills, experience and networks to help manage our unique region,” she said.
“Successful applicants will have a strong connection to the region, with first-hand knowledge of local landscapes and community values. In particular ecological knowledge, water, pastoral and cultural skills and experience will be valued, coupled with governance skills and knowledge.
“A diverse skills-based board is key to reflecting the values of the region and the scope of our responsibilities under the Landscape Act SA 2019.”
Landscape boards have a clear mandate to, manage, restore and protect the region’s natural resources for the long-term environmental health, sustainability and productivity of the state’s landscapes, and the SA Arid Lands is a region that covers more than half of South Australia.
Nominations for board member positions opened on Monday, 13 July. Nominees, including current members, are invited to complete an online form before 5pm on Sunday, 16 August 2026. Successful nominees are appointed for up to four years, starting 31 January 2027.
