Net zero emissions project
The board aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions for the organisation by 2026. A detailed audit of our emissions found electricity usage and fuel account for majority of greenhouse gas emissions.
Our Net Zero Emissions Action Plan guides the organisation to reduce emissions relating to office electricity and water use, as well as waste and transport.
The Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu Board have been tracking greenhouse gas emissions since 2020-21, and in 2023-24 the Boards organisational emission were 55t CO2-e.
Key emission reduction activities to date include:
- Installation of LED lighting panels reducing electricity use, and transitioning to 100% renewable energy since 2023
- Reduced, sorted and recycled office waste to minimise landfill contributions
- Added hybrid and electric vehicles to our fleet
- Encouraged virtual conferencing and meetings where possible to reduce flights, and purchase carbon offsets when booking flights; and
- Promoted digitisation, including electronic records management, to reduce use of paper.
Future plans to further reduce our emissions:
- Review and fill gaps in data to inform future emissions calculations;
- Implement improved waste tracking, and encourage staff to actively reduce waste;
- Transition more vehicles to hybrid/electric where possible;
- 4WD vehicles are required in our operations and hybrid/electric options are expected to be commercially available in 2026, these are already being investigated for new 4WD replacements; and
- Review our suppliers to support carbon neutral carbon products and suppliers, and green cleaning policy.
