Board meets in Andamooka
Hosting one meeting in the region annually provides the board with an opportunity to connect with community, visit sites supported by the board and gain first-hand experience in the region they visit.
This year’s regional meeting was held in Roxby Downs in the Kingoonya District.
Members endorsed the 2025-26 SAAL Board Annual Business Plan, reviewed and approved 2025/26 Grassroot Grant applicants and reviewed of the 2021-26 SAAL Regional Landscape Plan.
While in the region, the board and staff visited Arid Recovery to discuss shared goals with the vulnerable Idnya (Western Quoll), a focus of the board’s Discovery4Recovery program.
At Roxby Downs Station, board members were met by station managers Adam and Jolene Wagner and the team from Kokatha Pastoral who took the board to the culturally significant Lake Mary and Andamooka Station to see the progress of the co-funded erosion management project between SAAL and Kokatha
In Andamooka, Kingoonya Landscape Group chair Leila Day guided the group through tourism projects and took an in-depth look at the town’s rich opal mining history. Richard and Gill from APOMA showcased community projects such as the town park.
A community barbecue held in Andamooka was attended by 45 people and provided an opportunity for the community to engage with board members. Board chair Douglas Lillecrapp and General Manager Jodie Gregg-Smith provided an overview of recent projects that have occurred in the district and future activities planned by SAAL.
The Roxby Downs meeting follows previous meetings at Mt Ive in the Gawler Ranges and Hawker and Copley in the North Flinders district.
