Board seeks community input to its draft Regional Landscape Plan

News article |

The SA Arid Lands (SAAL) Landscape Board is drafting its five-year Regional Landscape Plan (2026-2031) and is seeking comments and feedback from its community and stakeholders.

The draft plan sets out the board’s strategic priorities, focus areas and key outcomes and provides direction for the delivery of the board’s projects, programs and partnerships across the region over a five-year period.

This is the second strategic plan for the SAAL Landscape Board and while it is not proposing large scale changes to its original plan, the draft Regional Landscape Plan 2026-2031 (RLP) better reflects the board’s current and future aspirations and those of stakeholders and the community.

In developing the draft plan, the board has sought feedback from board staff, members of the board and each of the seven district Landscape Groups.

From this feedback, the board is considering priorities that are similar to its current plan. This includes Climate Resilient Region, People and Partnerships, Water Management, Adaptive Land Management and Protecting and Enhancing Biodiversity.

The revised plan will guide the board’s work from 2026-2031.

Under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019, the board must review its Regional Landscape Plan once every five years and report on its success in maintaining, protecting, improving or enhancing the state of landscapes at the regional or local level.

It needs to specify five strategic priorities that are based on local priorities and needs, scientific and other expert information and advice, Aboriginal traditional knowledge and other relevant information evidence and factors.

Members of the community wishing to provide feedback can do so through a survey available at https://www.surveymonkeylcom/r/SAALdraftplan2026-2031 or by emailing your submission to saal.landscapeboard@sa.gov.au

Submissions will close on Saturday 31 January. Responses will be considered and an amended draft plan will be presented to the SAAL Landscape Board for approval and to the Minister for Environment and Water for endorsement before taking effect in July 2026.
