Get ready for the Pastoral Field Day
The SA Arid Lands Landscape Board is hosting its second region-wide Pastoral Field Day at the Port Augusta Racecourse on Thursday 20 March.
The massive, one-day event will showcase presenters on a range of land and stock management topics, live demonstrations, stalls and exhibitors all relevant to the pastoral region, as well as a range of children’s activities for all ages to keep children entertained.
This event will have a real field day feel, with gates opening at 9am and presenters and demonstrations throughout the day, including a cooking with game meats and native flavours by Louise and Doogal from Flinders Food Co. and Duncan Welgemoed from Africola. Another popular presentation will be horsemanship sessions presented by Bill Willoughby from Willoughby Way.
With a strong focus on showcasing and utilising regional business, the event has 54 stalls, with almost half local to the SA Arid Lands. All stalls and exhibitors provide goods and services in the region.
A community Q&A session will be held with representatives of the Pastoral Board, Livestock SA, Outback Communities Authority and the SA Arid Lands Landscape Board, so people can find out the latest on what’s happening with these agencies across the region.
Merino wool will also be showcased with a fashion parade of wool creations by 2024 State Agrifutures Award Winner, and founder of Horrocks Vale Collections, Nikki Atkinson.
In partnership with the Isolated Children’s Parents Association (ICPA), a dinner for the pastoral community will be hosted at the end of day and will include an auction to support the continued advocacy of rural and remote children ‘s education. Registrations for the dinner and the auction are required.
The field day is being held for pastoral property owners and anyone working and supporting land management in the SA Arid Lands. This includes pastoral property staff, conservation staff, and anyone involved with caring for Country. It is a family-friendly event, and anyone with dealings with pastoral businesses and an interest in pastoralism are welcome.
Entertainment will be provided by Tilly Tjala Thomas during the day and by Caitlin Drew in the evening.
The event has been supported by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the SA Drought Resilience, Adoption and Innovation Hub and by the SA Arid Lands Landscape Board through its Building Pastoral Sustainability Project and your Landscape Levy.
