Landscape Group members tour mine site
Gawler Ranges Landscape Group members were joined by members of the Port Augusta-Quorn Landscape Group and staff from the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board for a meeting and tour of the South Middleback Ranges Minesite at Iron Duke in late May.
The mine is the southern-most mine in the Middleback Ranges and the workplace of new members of both groups.
A short, joint group meeting was held onsite at the mine, before OneSteel staff shared information about the product being mined and improvements in technology that have allowed better access to materials.
The management of pest plants and animals, particularly goats was shared, before members heard overviews of the tailings storage facility, concentrator, mining operations and proposed plans for the site.
A tour of the site allowed members to see a pit view of Duchess North, see drilling cores and hear about happenings below ground and visiting Magnet and Magnet south pit lookouts.
