Sheep focus for Bindarrah workshop
Sheep producers from 10 properties in the North East Pastoral were represented at an Improving Traceability in the Rangelands workshop at Bindarrah Station in November.
Twenty-nine people attended the event, providing an opportunity for sheep producers to talk about the wool industry and get the latest information on production topics such as the new sheep eID scheme and demonstrations of ag-tech equipment.
Following a talk from Anne Collins about the SA sheep eID requirements, context, and opportunities to collect and apply data in a commercial context, Sarah and Michael Parker shared their experience in introducing eID into their sheep operation. In the yards, the Parkers showed their auto drafter using eID technology, before Tristan Edwards demonstrated the wands, panel readers and web platforms available from Datamars.
Australian Wool Innovation’s Shannon Donoghue shared the latest research into bioclip wool harvesting, which captured the audience’s attention. Wool products that included wind jackets were showcased.
A highly engaging introduction to the carbon market and livestock emissions within the pastoral zone was presented by the SAAL Board’s Carbon Officer Jade Leyden.
