This Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Action Plan, was developed in partnership with Dr Paul Horne and Rebecca Addison, to help Kangaroo Island farmers manage insect pests in broadacre crops using a practical, paddock-based approach. IPM focuses first on understanding pest lifecycles and supporting the natural enemies—beneficial insects—that keep pests in check. Cultural controls like crop rotation, stubble management, and timing of sowing are key tools in preventing pest build-up.

The Action Plan guides landholders to monitor pests and beneficials regularly, act only when necessary, and use selective chemical controls only as a last resort. By working with biology, not against it, farmers can reduce input costs, support soil and plant health, and build more resilient cropping systems. View the Action Plan below to start putting IPM into practice on your farm.
