What can your plants tell you?
Participants in the board’s Plants Under Pressure workshops delivered at Dutchmans Stern, Thurlga Station and Olary say it delivered easy to understand information that can be easily applied.
While the Dutchman’s Stern Workshop was delivered to Government Extension officers, the Thurlga Station workshop attracted 16 people, with a further six land managers attending the workshop at Olary.
The workshops were designed to increase knowledge and awareness of assessing the grazing impact of herbivores, particularly goats, kangaroos, rabbits, and livestock.
Delivered by FloraSight and Acacia Park Consulting, participants were shown how to undertake field-based vegetation assessment surveys, identify browse line monitoring and identify native plants.
Learning was tailored to each region. Attendees received a copy of the Plants Under Pressure booklet resource and a Country Condition checklist.
Feedback included: ‘I would love to do it again’, ‘Very relevant, particularly in our onsite environment’ and ‘Specific to my region’.
There is one more chance to attend a Plants Under Pressure workshop. It will be held at North Well Station, in the Kingoonya District, on Monday 14 September. You can register for this workshop at https://www.trybooking.com/DKMKU
If you are unable to attend the workshop, but are interested in the resources, you can find them online or contact your Community Landscape Officer for a printed copy.
