Our volunteer groups
There are many great groups working in the SA Arid Lands region undertaking a wide range of activities. Below is more information on some of the groups we work directly with, but there are plenty of other great groups that also volunteer their time in the regions such as the Farina Restoration Group, Scientific Expedition Group and the Buffel Busters that we would like to thank for their contributions to the region.

Blinman Parachilna Pest Plant Control Group
The Blinman Parachilna Pest Plant Control Group (BPPPCG) are a collection of community members who work with volunteers and contractors to help control pest weeds, mainly cactus, in the Northern Flinders region. Below are each of the volunteer groups that work with the BPPPCG
Toyota Landcruiser Club
The Toyota Landcruiser Club run various working bees in the region. Each year they travel out to Gum Creek Station to undertake cactus control as part of the BPPPCG’s activities. The group also work on the Kudriemitchie Outstation located in the Innamincka Region Reserve near Coongie Lakes where they help maintain the heritage listed site and control buffel grass.
Overland 4WD Club
The Overland 4WD club travel out to Oratunga each year to undertake cactus control as part of the BPPPCG’s activities.
Australian Retired Persons Association (ARPA) Bushwalkers
The ARPA Bushwalkers travel out to Alapana each year to undertake cactus control as part of the BPPPCG’s activities.
Adelaide Bushwalkers
The Adelaide Bushwalkers travel out to Gum Creek each year to undertake cactus control as part of the BPPPCG’s activities.
Mitsubishi 4WD Club
The Mitsubishi 4WD club travel out to Moolooloo each year to undertake cactus control as part of the BPPPCG’s activities. The group also undertakes heritage restoration on the property.
Blackwood Church of Christ
The Blackwood Church of Christ work through the Parachilna Gorge to monitor and control oleander growth. The group’s success has resulted in reduced trips to the region.
French Forest Baptist Group
The French Forest Baptist Group try to get out to Bullyaninnie each year to help the landholder control cactus as well as giving young people experience in station life by lending a hand in the day to day duties.
Friends of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park
The Friends of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park work together with rangers and the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park Co-management Board to plan their activities on the park. Their work includes heritage restoration, weed spraying and removal, park asset maintenance and cataloguing significant sites within the park.
Friends of Innamincka Regional Reserve
The Friends of Innamincka Region Reserve travel an incredible distance each year to undertake their annual working bee. Weed spraying and removal, park asset maintenance, bird surveys, and investigating the history of the area are just a few of the activities the group gets up to.
Friends of Mound Springs
The Friends of Mound Springs support the conservation and management of mounds springs throughout the SA Arid Lands Region. The group works with Natural Resources SA Arid Lands staff, traditional owners, and pastoralists to help protect these incredible jewels of the desert.
Friends of Simpson Desert
The Friends of Simpson Desert work closely with rangers and the Witjira National Park Co-Management Board to help improve both Witjira National Park and the Simpson Desert. General park maintenance, weed control, and infrastructure projects are just some of the activities the group works on.
Friends of Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park
The Friends of Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park support the park's biodiversity and cultural value. The group liaises closely with the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges Co-management Board.
Sporting Shooters Associations Australia – Conservation and Wildlife Management Branch
The Conservation and Wildlife Management Branch of the Sporting Shooters Association Australia volunteer their time to help control feral animals on and off parks - working with Natural Resources SA Arid Lands staff and landholders.
Friends of Gawler Ranges
The Friends of Gawler Ranges help maintain and improve the Gawler Ranges National Park by maintaining and repairing park assets, controlling weeds, and undertaking heritage restoration.
Walking Trails Support Group
Over the past 19 years, the Walking Trails Support Group has developed and maintained about 150 kilometres of walking tracks on public, leasehold and private land, largely in the Flinders Ranges and the Barossa region and aims to provide walkers with information about the landscape they are walking through.
