District Landscape Group chairs met in Port Augusta in October to undertake cross district planning and look at the key landscape management issues and priorities in each district.

Group Chairs meet with the SAAL Board

District priorities are identified as part of the District Action Planning process undertaken by each group which sets out priorities and activities for the coming two years.

Landscape Group Chairs then met with members of the SAAL Landscape Board, and they jointly discussed priorities across the seven districts and identified whole-of-region issues that will help to develop the board’s new five-year strategic plan. This work will begin in 2025 and replace the current plan that expires in 2026.

The Group Chairs also agreed to fund $1000 from each Landscape Group to support land manager attendance at the 2025 International Rangelands Congress (IRC) being held in Adelaide with an application process to be offered in February.

The networking and board update all reinforced the value of the district group model in the SA Arid Lands region and the development of leadership and wider engagement opportunities that support the board’s work.

Each Landscape Group meets at least four times a year, has a membership of up to seven people and develops a plan that supports the two-way flow of information from community, and priorities for action and investment at the district level.
