Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park Infrastructure Master Plan open for comment
Following the release of the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park Management Plan in June 2017 the Kanku-Breakaways Co-management Board have now completed an Infrastructure Master Plan for the park. The plan supports the themes of welcoming people and supporting the community while protecting the parks natural and cultural values.. It identifies visitor zones in the park, and supports vehicle and pedestrian access in a culturally and environmentally sensitive environment.

Following the release of the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park Management Plan in June 2017 the Kanku-Breakaways Co-management Board have now completed an Infrastructure Master Plan for the park.
The plan supports the themes of welcoming people and supporting the community while protecting the parks natural and cultural values. It identifies visitor zones in the park, and supports vehicle and pedestrian access in a culturally and environmentally sensitive environment.
Catering for both large and small groups in the master plan, the Kanku-Breakaways Co-Management Board aims to improve the visitor experience and takes into account the number of visitors to the park, group sizes, demographics and catering for peak visitation times. Visitors will be able to enjoy proposed walking trails and new lookouts, and additional time can be spent in the park with the provision of shade and amenity areas. Of importance is educating visitors on the cultural significance of the park and providing long-term protection of the cultural values of the park
The Infrastructure Master Plan is a result of extensive work by the seven-member Kanku-Breakaways Co-management Board. The Board has members from Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal Corporation (AMYAC), District Council of Coober Pedy and Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.
The development of the long-term infrastructure plan has included numerous site visits, discussions with the AMYAC Board, contributions from Kanku-Breakaways Co-management Board members and deputy members and Park staff.
The Infrastructure Master Plan is currently out for public consultation with a display at the Coober Pedy TAFE campus.
