Volunteer support
The Northern and Yorke Landscape Board provides support for volunteer groups or individual volunteers working on landscape management and conservation activities in the Northern and Yorke region. We provide access to funding, training, safety and insurance, plus technical advice and resources.
Funding
Our grants programs can provide funding for resources like personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid kits, weeding gloves and hand tools to support your project activities.
Volunteer training
We provide free training and networking sessions to empower volunteer groups with the knowledge and skills to volunteer safely and to best practice standards. Our training covers areas such as Aboriginal cultural awareness, native flora and fauna identification, bush care, woody weed control and first aid.
Volunteering SA offers regular training sessions across the state on topics such as teamwork, event management, mentoring, conflict resolution, aged care, safe food handling, and motivation and goal setting. These sessions help volunteers enhance and refresh their skills.

Volunteer safety and insurance
Work Health and Safety (WHS) measures are typically provided by your land manager, such as a local council and the Department for Environment and Water. If your landholder is unable to assist, the In Safe Hands Toolkit is a user-friendly safety management system designed for community groups. This toolkit is currently available for free through Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA).
Volunteers working in partnership with the Board on public and private land may be offered free insurance cover by South Australian Financing Authority (SAFA) insurance. This fact sheet explains about insurance cover offered to independent community groups in the Northern and Yorke region.
Here are the forms to help apply or renew insurance and for groups to record volunteer attendance:
