Groups invited to take a bite out of environmental grants
The Northern and Yorke Landscape Board is inviting community groups and not-for-profit organisations to apply for its 2025-2026 ‘Bite-sized Grants’, offering small but impactful funding to support local environmental projects.
Northern and Yorke Landscape Board Acting General Manager Rebecca Howard said the grants ($200 up to $2,000) were perfect to help kick-start short-term environmental initiatives, and he urged any group fitting the criteria to apply.
“The aim of this funding is to help smaller projects that deliver positive environmental and landscape management outcomes, such as weed control, revegetation projects and pest animal management,” she said.
“While each group can receive only one grant per year, applications are accepted on a rolling basis. If a group is not successful initially, they are welcome to reapply at any time during the grant period.
“They get ‘more than one bite’ at an opportunity for funding, if you like.”
Among the 2024-2025 funding recipients was the Friends of Moorowie who used their $2000 grant for native plant revegetation of a section of the Mozzie Flat Walking Trail.
Jamestown Apex Club was awarded $2000 for its ‘24 Drought - Resilience at its BEST initiative, bringing the drought-affected community together to access support services, and a social outlet during challenging times.
Caltowie Corridors of Green was awarded $1100 for its annual Appila Springs Environmental Field Day, focussing on education; and Sandy Creek Golf Club used $2000 funding to increase biodiversity, weed control, tube stock planting and guarding.
Mintaro Progress Association was funded $1300 for a native garden at the town institute, and Blyth Management Committee received $1988 for signage along the Dean Nicolle Eucalypt Walk.
“These are just some of the fantastic examples of projects across Northern and Yorke that were given a boost over the last year by these Bite-sized Grants,” Mrs Howard said.
“The grants and projects may be ‘small’ in size, but they are each delivering big outcomes for the region.”
Applications for the 2025-2026 Bite-sized Grants open on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, and close at 5pm on Friday, 29 May 2026, unless funding is expended earlier.
Eligible projects must contribute to one or more of the priorities of the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board (Pest Plant and Animal Control, Sustainable Agriculture, Water Management, Biodiversity, Communities).
The grants program is not open to individual landholders; however groups of landholders can apply for funding with the support of a sponsor.
