Northern and Yorke Landscape Board General Manager Tony Fox said the grants supported a diverse range of projects, including five First Nations-led initiatives.

“Now in its sixth year, the Grassroots Grants program is all about helping landholders, volunteers and community groups across the Northern and Yorke region bring their landscape management projects to life,” Mr Fox said.

“It’s about supporting the work people are passionate about – from protecting native species to restoring local habitats – all with a shared goal of improving the environment and ensuring long-term sustainability.”

Among the successful applicants for 2025-2026 is the Australian Botanic Gardens who have been awarded $10,000 for its Roots of Resilience project, capturing and storing seed and plant collections for at least six threatened plants from multiple locations across the region.

Gawler River Riparian Restoration project will receive $10,000 for biodiversity planting, erosion control, pest plant and animal management and public park development.

The Birdlife Australia Raptor Group is set to soar, with $9250 to assist its wedge-tail eagle population, breeding, foraging behaviours, and habitat study in the Mid North.

Nelshaby Agricultural Bureau will receive $6050 to purchase equipment to be loaned to farmers free of charge to help control boxthorns.

And the Point Pearce Aboriginal Corporation will receive $10,000 for a community-led project focusing on biodiversity, pest management and waterway health at both Point Pearce and Wardang Island.

While Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation will receive $10,000 for its ancestors return to Country project that will support protection and restoration of habitats using endemic native vegetation and conservation of land that will be used for reburial sites.

Other projects include feral animal and pest plant control, dune revegetation/restoration, cultural awareness and connection, revegetation, and developing environmental management plans.

All of the Grassroots Grants-funded projects align with one or more of the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board’s Regional Landscape Plan priorities of biodiversity, communities, pest plant and animal control, water management and sustainable agriculture.

The projects reflect the Board’s commitment to practical, community-led solutions that deliver lasting benefits for people and the environment.

The Grassroots Grants program is offered annually through the regional landscape levy, with the next round of applications opening in autumn 2026.
