Livestock and pastures
By working with the region’s livestock farmers, the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board has been able to play a role in developing positive natural resource management outcomes and improved sustainability for land managers.
With a broad spread of enterprises in the region – irrigated and dry land, beef and dairy cattle, sheep, horses, pigs and more – projects have focussed on both improving pastures and progressing livestock systems.
Marginal to Mainstream, for example, is a program designed to showcase farming methods that increase the productivity of native grassy ecosystems in the Ranges to River District. Demonstration sites were set up between Finniss and Morgan to trial management tools, supported by resources to support grazing management skills of local participants.
