Sustainable irrigation

The Sustainable Irrigation Program provides practical support to irrigators in the Murraylands and Riverland landscape region with the aim of facilitating long-term, sustainable water use.

Funding support

The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board has been working in partnership with the Australian Government and irrigators to deliver irrigation efficiency programs across the southern connected Murray-Darling Basin region since 2010.

The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board has been selected to act as a Delivery Partner under the Murray-Darling Basin Water Efficiency Program (WEP).

In its role of Delivery Partner for the WEP the The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board and regional staff will actively support irrigators through the complete project cycle - development, assessment and implementation.

Projects must have neutral or positive socio-economic outcomes and must meet minimum water savings of 3ML for projects delivered by the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board.

There are five project streams and we can assist with the following:

  • on-farm projects
  • off-farm projects
  • metering projects
  • urban water efficiency projects
  • industrial water efficiency projects

The socio-economic criteria will be applied to all efficiency measures projects prior to any proposal being approved. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to review the newly adopted criteria and work with their Delivery Partner to ensure compliance of their proposal against the criteria.
