Managing native species
The Murraylands and Riverland region is home to a diverse range of native plant and animal species. Many of these are threatened or endangered species, while some species have increased substantially in numbers. The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board works closely with the community to help conserve habitats and manage threats that impact on our precious native species.
The landscape board takes a number of difference approaches to managing biodiversity in the region. Protecting habitats through maintenance, restoration and recovery programs can make a significant impact on protecting the native plants and native animals in the region. Specific management strategies may be required for over-abundant native species to ensure they don’t create negative impacts in the landscape.
